From creative writing to creative copywriting

How I got here

I studied BA Creative Writing (yep, it's a real degree - still got the debt to prove it) and subsequently worked in sales, marketing, business development, comms, and finally as a multi-million-pound bid writer for a national charity.

Turns out all those wordy skills and sales smarts I've collected along the way make me a kick-ass copywriter.

Writing is, and always will be, my one true love, plus I have two sticky little children that I’d like to be around as much as possible. So a few years back, I decided to give this freelance marlarky a go.

So far, so good.

Your business called - it's looking for its edge

The art of human communication

The businesses that are killing it right now aren't those with the biggest ad spend. They're the ones with voice

It's time to get real, friend.

As someone with over 15 years of experience talking to, selling to, and writing for people, trust me when I say: being human works

It’s why here at The Proper Copy Studio, I welcome all brands and businesses that want more human, and less corporate schtick in their business communications.

I want other people to care about your business as much as you do

(because when your business thrives, so does mine!), so my approach largely leans towards:

Translating your deep-rooted brand values into a commercial message that your target audience cares about too,
so that selling never feels like selling out.

Hype

Nice stuff people have said about my mad copywriting skillz

"Web copy that really represents me and my business."

I worked with Sarah earlier this year on my website as part of a larger project which involved a whole new site design.

She was so great at understanding my business and what I wanted to achieve with my new copy.

The result was amazing web copy that really represents me and my business

"Sarah proved to be a fantastic find."

She produced creative copy of a high standard which really resonated with our target audiences.

She was professional and personable throughout, delivering the project on time and on budget.

I would have no hesitation in commissioning her for future copywriting projects.

"She came highly recommended and we can see why."

Sarah easily navigated the various stakeholder inputs and opinions, helping us to identify a clear and focused mission statement that we could all stand behind.

She was able to distil our thoughts into a clear and compelling brand message that captured the essence of who we are and what we stand for.

Family Voice Surrey

You lookin' at me?

The clients I have a hot buttered crumpet level of love for tend to:

Genuinely care about what they do (and how it impacts others)

Offer a service or product that champions the community, the outside, the planet, the people that live here and/or creativity

Be ready to invest time, money and energy into making their marketing work properly for their business

Trust my process and my expertise (it’s why you’re hiring me after all)

Favour focusing on building something that lasts, instead of relying solely on social media

If that sounds a bit like you, then what are you waiting for? Let’s have a conversation

And for you nosey folk who want to know what I get up to when I’m not copywriting for brilliant UK businesses?

Well, I used to regularly hike and avidly travel and spend long Sundays lounging about in Wimbledon pubs or at the local hot yoga studio. Bougie, I know.

Now, I’m a mum of two under 5’s so I mostly spend my time standing on lego, standing in the park or standing in my downstairs toilet whenever I want to eat a biscuit in peace.

Good job I love ‘em, eh?
